From boat shoes on the docks to wingtips in the mansions, Newport exudes a style all its own! The city-by-the-sea is looking forward to stylish summer season when Newport will welcome three exceptional fashion exhibits sure to amaze fashionistas and history buffs alike!
In "Jet Set to Jeans: The Wardrobe of Doris Duke," the Newport Restoration Foundation will showcase fashion to shed light upon the fascinating life of Doris Duke, an eccentric socialite tobacco and energy heiress of the early 1900s who captivated the public eye from her youth through her older years. The exhibit, which will run through November at Rough Point, will feature everything from couture clothing by Balenciaga and Christian Dior to 1950s cross country ski boots.
Rosecliff mansion will be showcasing style as well with "Portrait of a Newport Lady, an engaging exhibit that will explore the relationship of a traditional Victorian mother and her precocious daughter through fashions, accessories, and letters.
Starting May 5 and running through the summer, the Newport Historical Society's Museum of Newport History will offer a historical look at fashion with "On The Heels of Fashion: 18th Century Women's Shoes" featuring shoes, slippers, and clogs revealing how Newport women strove to keep up with the latest English and French fashions.
